Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. James 3:13
This is still a continuation of the same last three teachings. It is the Lord showing how we as men think our works are good, we are good people (not all, but most). I have met a few people who are the opposite and thought they were so bad that God could never love them or forgive them. I had a neighbor when in Clear Lake Iowa who was a drug addict and felt that way. But by and far most think they are good and deserving as they are. Such people are neither “meek nor humble.”
Note the verse above, we are to show that our works are done in the meekness of wisdom. Wisdom does not come to us from God if we think we know it all, we cannot learn wisdom by studying. Wisdom comes because of meekness and a humble spirit. We must realize we do not have the answers, but that we can go to the one who does, the Lord Yeshua.
But instead we think we are good like we are, which goes against everything Yeshua and the Father ever taught. And then we cry when the calamity comes, just like the example of the friend of my wife at the wedding the other night.
But today my wife gave another excellent example of another friend who called her and was crying because of her live in boyfriend. When I look at her life she lives in a “good way” it is not so good. According to her it is, according to God she is paying the price for her way of living.
A few points God was reminding me of, first she slept with this guy a number of years ago and they got pregnant and moved in together. Now neither of these are right with God. She told my wife how she met up with some Italian guy in Sonora she met online and had sex with him. Another thing not right with God. Yet she is crying because he has another one on the side, keeping in mind they are not married. But she is a “good person.”
The other lady from the wedding, the Lord, reminded me something also about her. She was living with the guy who was a possible cartel, and was married. They had 2 kids. He disappeared for many years so she shacked up with another guy and had two more kids, these two are the ones with mental issues. And now she is back with the first cartel guy. But she is a “good person.”
Now in all fairness, I can tell you the Lord also showed me a lot of my past, I slept with a lot of women, I went to strip clubs and was not perfect with my ex wife. Basically I also did some of these same things these two have done, so it is not to judge them, the judgement comes from the Lord. And I at the time in my own eyes was a “good person.” Being catholic I was going to heaven in my mind.
The point, your works give you away. But it is not the works you did, it is the works you will do going forward. Do you still sleep around, cry over your calamity, not take care of your body… Or whatever you are doing which is not right in the eyes of God? Or have you?
I did, and I accept the calamity the Lord allowed me to live through because I did things a man should not and paid the price for them. Many teach the Lord paid the price for you, and he did with the ultimate sacrifice, but that does not excuse you from your sinful prideful life you need to repent of. We will and do pay the price, yet most do not see it because they cry over spilt milk when they are the ones who spilt it. Until you do accept it and stop listening to the worldly teachers who cry with you and tell you to go see a counselor instead of telling you to repent and seek the truth in Yeshua. You will stay there in sin and dysfunction, crying every night.
The other thing is many of you like that life, my wife used to. She loved to go to her families get together and listen to everyone’s problems and give advice, and or have them cry over her problems. I remember a time early on in our relationship, a few months after getting married. We were sitting in our home and it was quiet. She asked if it is always this quiet and I smiled and said yes. I thought she was loving it, but she was hating it as it was too boring, no drama to deal with.
I am happy to say she now loves the quiet, and does not want to deal with the drama. How she handles it now is very different. For example, a guy from her church came up to her last night at a fiesta for Independence day. And he was crying all drunk, saying he does not go to church anymore and asked her to pray for him. My wife instead of like the old days saying of course, you need to come back to church… She said to him, you need to know God, religion won’t help you. Hear him and obey him.
My wife has come a long way since we met. Many times I wondered why God brought us together when I was going one way towards God and she was going the other. But I always had faith that he had a purpose, and it was to use me to help her come to know the truth in Yeshua instead of the “christian way.” I really see it coming to fruit. And I hope that these other people I speak of also repent and come to know Yeshua in this way, just like my wife did and just like I did!
Final point, we all are evil in heart. We do not see it but we are. And unless you let God show you your evil heart it will remain evil. If you allow his light to shine in it, he can fix it, anyone’s including my Clear Lake neighbors. You actually are better off thinking you are evil than a “good person” because you have a better chance of truly repenting. But both sides are wrong with God, they both are of the devil, he does not care if you think you’re good or too evil for God as long as you do not seek God. The answer is to seek the truth in God, then hear him and obey him. He is the “way, truth and light, and no other way to the Father except through the son!”
